The motor/generator controller is an essential part of such a power generation and/or motion control system. It interfaces and converts electric machine 3-phase AC voltages into DC bus voltage operating as a generator controller and converts DC bus voltage into 3-phase ac excitation voltages operating as a motor controller. A prerequisite for DC bus stability is compliance with stringent voltage regulation requirements. This focus of this presentation is to presents the design, and test results of a 75kW continuous operation power converter achieving a volumetric power density above 7kW/liter at an 85oC coolant temperature. Details regarding power quality and thermal management are discussed.
