There is a new motor on the industrial side of town. It is a synchronous motor without permanent magnets and can be driven by an inverter. It is named a synchronous-reluctance motor. This presentation will compare 3 motor types , the PM motor with rare earth magnets, the induction motor and the synchronous-reluctance motor. It will focus on output power in terms of Kilowatts and HP. All other parameters such as size, efficiency, torques and speeds will be tabulated. Some industrial applications will be used to match the best motor performance. Relative pricing of each motor type will be included. This presentation will provide useful examples of exhibiting the best motors for each job.
