Owing to the development and advances in the permanent magnet industry, new motor possibilities, that were once only a wish, are now a reality. This presentation will illustrate a variety of permanent magnet motor configurations and give the characteristics of each. The advantages and disadvantages will also be detailed for every configuration presented. These configurations will include standard brushless and brushed motors, inverted versions of each, ironless and inverted ironless, alternators, axial, segmented, and toroidally wound motors. Some typical applications for each configuration will be given.
